THIS week’s Nato summit will be a “make-or-break moment” for elderly Joe Biden, an American political expert claimed last night.

Massachusetts-based professor Michael Butler said the embattled US President will have to prove he’s capable of leading the West through one of the most dangerous cross-roads in modern times.

Professor Butler explains how this week’s Nato summit finds the alliance at a ‘critical crossroads’

And amid unease in Europe over a possible Donald Trump presidency, he will have to stave off concerns that he is unfit to be commander in chief not just of the US but the free world too.

Professor Butler said: “This week’s Nato summit finds the alliance at a critical crossroads.

“Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Nato is more relevant today than at any point since the end of the Cold War.

“If things go smoothly, it could help calm mounting anxieties among the Europeans concerning American leadership of the alliance while helping him appear presidential.

“Conversely, a repeat of the debate performance at the summit seems likely to doom his candidacy.”

Mr Biden’s faltering appearance in a TV debate with rival Donald Trump has fuelled calls to step down amid concerns over his health.
